When God Wiggles the Hook

She never thought that her life would be like this. Mira is the youngest of three children. Both her parents died when she was young, so the job of raising her fell to her older sister. Their family were deeply committed Muslims, and their traditions, thought patterns, and way of life were tightly wrapped around their faith.
But when God touches a person's life, it can be a life-changing event. Through hearing the broadcast of the Nzone radio program, Mira came to know Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. The night that she first heard the broadcast, she listened as the announcer told how God loved the whole world and everyone in it, including those who were listening to the program right then. Immediately, Mira felt emptiness in her heart and life and she somehow knew that it could only be filled by Jesus. At the end of the program, the announcer gave contact information for those who wanted to personally respond to the program and Mira carefully wrote down the cell phone number that was given. That night she sent her first of many text messages to the Nzone counselor. She wanted someone to explain how she could become a follower of Christ.
Time passed and Mira continued to hide her new faith from her family. Up to this point, all contact between Mira and Nzone had been through text messages on the cell phone. But Mira wanted to meet her counselor. She desired to talk more freely about what had happened to her as well as ask about things she wanted to understand better. After a number of text messages, it was worked out that Mira and the Nzone counselor would meet at a downtown shopping center.
Mira had a locked cabinet in her room where she kept her Bible and spiritual tapes that her Nzone counselor had given her. One day Mira had fallen asleep while reading her Bible. Her brother-in-law was dismayed to see the Bible. He grabbed it and scolded her severely. ?This is unclean for you, as a Muslim, to even touch the Bible.?
The next day, the extended family decided to arrange for a cleansing ceremony since they felt that Mira was contaminated. They brought in various area religious leaders and neighbors. They prayed for forgiveness of Mira.
As of now, Mira is still living with her sister and trying to hide her Christian activities as much as possible. Please pray that she will have the strength and courage to be salt and light (a witness) to her sister and brother-in-law... that in spite of persecution, that she would grow strong in her faith... that she might find other believers in her community to meet with... that the Lord would use her to bring her family to personal relationship with Christ... that the Lord would empower her to live in community with her people and use her as the catalyst to begin an indigenous church planting movement amongst her people.
Life Changed Through Radio

Not Just a Habit : (Sent in by a listener from Fararangana, Madagascar)
Pastor, I already heard many kinds of teaching through radio and churches. Most of the time they are superficial or very philosophical. Your teaching is very different and more practical. Since I've listened to this program, I see how God has changed my way of thinking and my entire life. Each time I listen, there is always something that God uses to change me. Before, when I went to church, it was just a habit. Today is Sunday...time to go to church...just a routine with no feeling of spiritual hunger. But while listening to your teaching, I wondered why I really go to church. You give me the reason. You are God's mouth and through your mouth, God speaks directly to me. I now go to church to worship with other Christians. I have a regular personal devotional life and feel uncomfortable if I miss my special meeting with my Lord and Savior day by day.
Trusting Only Him : (Sent in by a listener from Port Berge, Madagascar)
I am very happy to listen to this program. I can stand now only for Jesus and don't ask the power of the ancestors to bless my family and me. I only trust Jesus and only Him in all my life. In building our house, normally we would ask the astrologer where to put the foundation. We didn't go to him because we asked Jesus to bless it. People have waited for something bad to happen because we didn't follow the custom. We have received many blessings instead and we only praise His name.
Sharing Christ in the Africa East Field (submitted by Job Odanga, WMB Radio Coordinator, Africa)
The radio work has been a supporting hand in most of the ministry and life of our Churches all over this region. Though most of the listeners never take time to write, Pastor Christopher and his team meet and give spiritual guidance to them accordingly. The day I visited, while we walked to the radio station, we were stopped by a military man. He said to Christopher, "Sir, I have been looking for you because I have been listening to you preach on radio about the only hope that we can ever have. A few weeks ago I discovered that I am HIV positive and I know that soon I will die but I would like you to help me have a hope in this Lord that you have been teaching about. I need forgiveness of all my wrongs....". We sat on a rock and Pastor Christopher shared the good news with him. He gave his life to Jesus that day.
Spotlight: Perfect Rythm
Youth radio programming in the Asia-Pacific Region
Christian music has never been better! Here are a few notes of encouragement that were received from Perfect Rhythm (PR) listeners:
?I listen to your program through the internet. I am glad you always include truths about the Bible.?
?I'm really blessed with your topics. I'm inviting my friends to listen to your program.?
?It makes my Sunday complete...cool...inspiring.?
?Perfect Rhythm...cool...nice music. It's really alternative and the thing I like most in this program is the topics every week - very timely and encouraging.?
Young people enjoy listening to Perfect Rhythm! Many testimonies have been received that listeners are tuning in to PR before going to church on Sunday morning. Jordan Escusa, the DJ, is young and understands the needs of those his own age. Listeners have even suggested that the program change from half an hour to a full hour. This youth focused radio program is just one of many programs that is supported through Nazarene offerings.
