NEW NAME, RENEWED VISION

The spoken word is the primary communication means for over 60% of the worlds’ 6.1 billion inhabitants. Nearly one-quarter are illiterate, unable to either read or write. For billions, broadcast remains a primary source of information about and understanding of the world around them. For billions, the spoken word is the only means by which they will come to understand that Jesus loves them, came, and died for their sins.

What years ago began as the Nazarene Radio League evolved to World Mission Radio, then to World Evangelism Broadcast and now to World Mission Broadcast. Each of the name changes that have taken place over the past 59 years have reflected changes in both the church and the world around us, and have served to better identify and clarify the scope of this ministry.

What has remained consistent from the very beginning has been the mission of this ministry…to “Reach the Unreached” for Christ and the Church.

With the emergence of new technology available on a global basis, new doors of opportunity for broadcast ministry have opened. Changes within church structure and leadership have needed to be reflected in ministry designations. Political and governmental changes around the world have taken place that have both hindered and helped Nazarene broadcast ministry. All of those factors were influences in the name change to World Mission Broadcast.

World Mission Broadcast…Reaching the Unreached through radio, television and the internet. World Mission Broadcast…bringing the Good News to the lost.

We are thankful to the Lord for his faithful provision for this international outreach and discipling ministry. We are thankful to the Lord for your faithful prayer and financial support that is resulting in changed lives around the world.

The name has changed…our vision renewed…”go into all the world and make disciples.”
PRODUCTION OF BENGALI RADIO BROADCAST MOVES TO CALCUTTA

In order to produce radio programs closer to the source, the production of the Bengali radio program is being moved to Calcutta, India where it will be under the supervision of District Superintendent, Sunil Dandge.

RADIO IN THE CIS

As a result of conducting marketing research about popular stations and program formats in the Ukraine, the Nazarene broadcast team has now changed the format of the Ukrainian program from a 15 minute program to a five minute program, broadcasting several times a week. It is currently being carried on a popular FM station in Kiev during daytime hours.

ARABIC TELEVISION BROADCAST INVESTIGATED

With access to a Christian television station based in Beirut, Lebanon, initial contacts have been made about the possibility of World Mission Broadcast beginning production and broadcast of several television programs to reach the Arabic speaking world.

Several Nazarene laymen are currently working at the television studio and could serve as a core production team. One of these laymen currently serves as the host of one of the more popular programs carried by the station. Pray with us that doors will continue to open to move into this wonderful opportunity for expanded ministry.

DEDICATION OF SOUTH AMERICA COMMUNICATIONS CENTER

Pilar, Argentina
May, 2003

“Lord, we dedicate this building to service in your Kingdom. May all that is done here be to your glory and honor.”

With these words, Dr. Louie Bustle, Director of World Mission, dedicated the just completed communications center for the South America region.

Thanking Dr. Bustle for his vision for communications needs on the region, Dr. Bruno Radi, Regional Director for South America, congratulated the communications team on this milestone of ministry, and thanked all who had helped make the dream become reality. Dave Anderson, Director of WM Communications and World Mission Broadcast, joined in the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Work and Witness teams, as well as local contractors and staff personnel, all played critical roles in the construction of the facility that houses an audio and video studio, production offices and conference rooms. The World Mission Broadcast office and production facility are housed nearby.

Lee Rudeen, Regional Communications Coordinator for South America, challenged the regional communications team to use the facility to multiply their ministry:

“Timo: This is yours. Use it to make disciples as you can.”
“Glynda: This is yours. Use it to make known the tremendous value of missions.”
“Brian: This is yours. Use it to make known how radio is reaching people’s hearts.”
“Juan Jose: This is yours. Use it to fortify your leaders.”
“Marcelo Laffitte: This is yours. Use it to put in print the marvels of what God is doing.”
“Susan: This is yours. Use it to help connect wonderful pastor’s kids to those who would help them.”
“Gabi: This is yours. Use it to fortify the impact of Sunday School.”
“Dave: This is yours. Use it to help spread the Word to every corner of the world.”
“Dr. Radi: This is yours. Use it, please, to help fulfill the great vision that God has given you for the Church of the Nazarene.”

The new facility will enhance the production capability of the communications team that last year won two Aurora Awards – one for the production of “MK Life – Lane Koenig” and the other for the production of “TOBIAS”, a video format discipleship series.
