16 Million Listeners – 500 Stations – Listeners Respond!
Buenos Aires, Argentina: The month of April 2004 has brought the biggest month in the continued growth of World Mission Broadcast, South America. With the regional programs of “The Valued Woman,” “What Next?” and “Life Revolution,” the listening audience has grown to over 16 million listeners during the month of April. Affiliates continue to seek out these programs to add to their daily programming, which are now on more than 500 radio stations throughout all of Latin America. Due to the demand of listeners responding to the program’s follow-up website “Esperanza.net,” a new phase was added this May. Originally, each respondent to the website received a “Hope Packet,” which included the Book of Luke, Plan of Salvation, Church of the Nazarene Articles of Faith, Pencil and Stickers. Due to the rising number of listeners and respondents, we have discontinued the “Hope Packet” in this form. The cost, on average, to mail this packet was $3 (US). On May 3rd, we began the weekly “Hope Packet” discipleship e-letter to the now hundreds of emails received via “Esperanza.net.” This allows the Church of the Nazarene to continue communications with the listeners and to offer weekly encouragement and discipleship to the listening audience. Brian Utter, Radio Coordinator for the South American Region, shared the following listener responses from South America’s WMB programs: “Thank you for sharing with me this
message. It comes to me like a ring to my finger. Blessing to all my friends
of hope.” “Hello. Thank you for the packet.
Please could you send me a packet about marriage, how to love a person
and what is true happiness?” “Hello. I am 34 and have been married
for 10 years to a wonderful man. I am a mother to 4 boys and 2 girls.
It is nice to be greeting you, it is like I know you because I listen
to you every day on my local radio station, Radio Maranatha in Peru. Thank
you for your messages, they are a great blessing to my life and I know
to many more women also. I am so pleased to be able to have contact with
you. If you could, please send me by mail messages for women. We have
only been in this city for a year and a half; we are from Lima, but felt
God calling the whole family to serve Him here. God bless you.” “I don’t know how to start,
but most of my life is unbalanced. My father left me and my family when
I was young and died 12 years later. A month after my father died, my
fiancée passed away. I had reached the limit and was fighting God
and sometimes felt He was punishing me. I asked Him why he was this was
happening to me. I was afraid to be alone. I have many problems at school.
There are moments I don’t think I can go on. I want to fall in front
of a car. Is this right? I don’t want to hurt myself. Could you
give me counsel?” “Thank you for your beautiful promise.
Really I need it. I am looking for Christian friends with whom I can share
my faith and spiritual worries. In my family, I am the only Christian
and it is difficult to live with people who don’t share the same
beliefs. For this I suffer their criticism, misunderstandings and many
times I feel like a lone island in the middle of the sea. Truthfully,
I need your help. I request that you pray for me, so I may rise to win
this spiritual battle. I’ve been married for 8 years, but my husband
lives with another woman in another city. My son is going through a personality
crisis without a father and is very sensitive to the smallest criticism.
What hurts him the most is knowing that his father is living with another
woman that has a son his same age. Please, help me with your prayers to
make it through this test. God has a purpose for this in my life, but
I can not deal with terrible pain. Thanks for your help.” “You have found me passing through
a moment of great confusion, because I want a relationship with God. My
wife has left me with our two children, my son, 8 and my daughter, 19.
I started attending a church a month ago, but I don’t see a solution.
I am desperate. I want a solution to the problem I have with my wife,
but I don’t know how to do it. I know we have hurt each other and
because of this she doesn’t want to come back. Please respond quickly.” |
